EUROPEAN COUNCIL

In 2011, as part of an ambitious project, the Council of the European Union will move into a brand new building with a rather curious architectural style. From the rue de la Loi, the building will take on the appearance of a huge cube with a patchwork of wooden frames and crystalline glass on its facade. Through this large volume, it will be possible to make out a kind of giant amphora housing the conference rooms. In opaque glass, lit during the night, it will look like a lantern placed in a box. It also symbolises transparency ... a tall order for the Council in every respect.

Fin de siècle museum.

musee fin de siecle museum
The Museum of Modern Art opened its doors in 1984, and since 2006 its six floors have hosted exhibitions and collections dedicated to the 19th and 20th centuries. Following the opening of the Magritte Museum on 2 June 2009 (which has already welcomed a million visitors), the work of reorganising the various divisions of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium continues. The closing of the Museum of Modern Art on 1 February 2010 was the next step, leading to the 2012 inauguration of our "Fin de Siècle Museum" which is destined to become a flagship cultural institution.

2013

The proposal for renovation of the Africa Museum was approved by the federal council of ministers in July 2006 and has been assigned to the Stéphane Beel Architectenbureau on September 11th, 2007. The preliminary design fully modernizes the museum, but in so far as possible retains the historical vista of the building. Besides the renovation of the museum building, a master plan is also being developed with a long-term vision for the whole site.
