Eco-friendly hotels
More and more hotels with ecolabels!
There is accommodation for every need, every level of requirements, whether for business, a romantic break or a getaway with friends.
From a trendy hostel to upscale hotels, a common feature identifies an increasing number of accommodation facilities: the Ecodynamic Enterprise Label. Some are labelled Green Key. Service quality and environmental protection are particularly highly rated. A label is a guarantee that the product or service meets certain specifications and strict standards.
The 'Green Key' international label
The Green Key is an international eco-label chosen today by over 1,300 tourism infrastructures worldwide. It is awarded annually to tourism facilities, hotels, bed and breakfasts, youth hostels, camp sites, conference centres and attractions, based on evaluation criteria rating overall environmental management, waste management, water, energy and green open spaces, food, environmental education, mobility, ... Through these criteria of excellence, the Green Key programme aims to promote sustainable development in tourism infrastructure. The Green Key is an initiative of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In January 2011, on the initiative of Mr. Christos Doulkeridis, Brussels Minister for Tourism, the Green Key label certification process started in Brussels.

The first 'Green key' labels for accommodation in the Brussels Region are awarded
There are increasing concerns about sustainability in tourism these days. The growing number of different ecolabels and other certificates run the risk of causing confusion among organisations who are considering labelling. To respond to the interest expressed by the hotel industry, as well as by other kinds of tourist establishments in the Brussels-Capital Region, Christos Doulkeridis, Brussels' Minister for Tourism, was keen to introduce a clear, recognisable label. "Ever since I took on this role, I wanted to support a label or a certification system to reduce our ecological impact and secure Brussels' position as a sustainable destination in 2014", explains Christos Doulkeridis. At the end of a period of reflection and analysis, the international "Green Key" label was chosen, represented in Wallonia and in Brussels by the Fédération Inter-Environnement Wallonie (IEW).The regional 'Eco-dynamic Enterprise' label
It is awarded to Brussels companies, large and small, publicly or privately-owned or run by associations, which implement good environmental management practices. These practices include rational waste management, continuous efforts in terms of energy savings, incentives and non-motorized means of transport for workers, etc. Companies can be awarded one to three stars to reward their efforts. Arrangements have been made for cooperation arrangements with the international 'Green Key' label.Hotels with the 'Ecodynamic Enterprise' label:
